Bank employees organise donation drive in sprit of Year of Giving

Dubai, 21 November 2017: In keeping with the ‘Year of Giving’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, Emirates NBD, a leading banking group in the region, and its fully-owned subsidiary Tanfeeth presented a generous contribution to the Dubai Center for Special Needs with funds collected solely by employee donations. The donations will be put towards sponsoring four students at Dubai Center for Special Needs during this school-year.

Led by Maryam Bahlooq, CEO of Tanfeeth, the drive brought together staff and families across the banking group to give back to the community by raising funds for their long-standing partner, Dubai Center for Special Needs. The contribution will be used towards serving the diverse academic, physical, social and emotional needs of children with disabilities (people of determination). Mahshid Salehi, Director of the Dubai Center for Special Needs, accepted the donation on the facility’s behalf and expressed that each dirham received would help maintain a well-rounded educational experience for the center’s children.

Earlier this year, Emirates NBD announced its commitment to three pillars of the Year of Giving - ‘Strengthening social responsibility in the private sector,’ ‘Promoting a spirit of volunteering,’ and ‘Strengthening the concept of serving the nation in new generations of Emiratis and expatriates’ and has since launched several CSR initiatives which include active participation from employees across the bank as well as Tanfeeth to help bring change in the community.

As a homegrown bank, Emirates NBD has been a frontrunner in furthering the progress and accessibilities for people with disabilities (people of determination) in the UAE. It’s flagship advocacy platform, #TogetherLimitless has undertaken several initiatives for disability mainstreaming including launching the Careers Network to facilitate workplace inclusion of people with cognitive disabilities, opening seventeen disability-friendly bank branches so far, promoting financial inclusion by offering Sanad card holders (privilege access card developed by CDA for people with disabilities) the Emirates NBD ‘Beyond from Personal Banking’ package, exempt of minimum salary as well as publishing a research report on the banking and financial habits and attitudes of people with disabilities (people of determination) in the UAE. It also runs a long-term social investment programme, PRIDE (People Receiving Independence and Dignity through Empowerment), for people with cognitive disabilities that runs activities of educational inclusion, capacity building, and public awareness.
