The Green Champion

The Green Champion initiative recognizes the sustainability initiatives adopted by our staff in their personal lives, from re-forestry projects, growing their own food, composting at home, reducing energy consumption and many other eco-friendly practices. Every action counts to creating a sustainable world.

In our first highlight story, we applaud Preetha Shanmugham from our Operations Risks team, who adopted the Miyawaki method of re-forestation in her hometown in India. Miyawaki forests grow 10x faster, are 30x denser and contain 100x more biodiversity. It mimics the way a forest would re-colonise itself if humans stepped away. Only native species that would occur naturally in that area without humans, given the specific climate condition, are planted.

Preetha’s decision to adopt this method has seen over 100 trees now in her forest, planted when they were 3-5 months old and now have grown to 2 metres! They are combination of fruit trees, shrubs and natural pesticide plants as well (turmeric, neem, curry leaves). Her eventual aim is to grow this into a forest of up to 3 acres! Amazing initiative!

Consumer education & awareness

As part of our efforts to community value creation, we educate the public on financial wellness to help them better manage their personal finances. The main topics are saving, spending, borrowing, and investing as well as vigilance against fraud attacks, which are on the rise.

Partnerships

We are actively extending our network of partners through relationships founded on mutual commitment, purpose and values, with a particular emphasis on public-private partnerships.

We occasionally fund a programme or organisation directly, but we prefer to work with partners like community institutions to strategically target an impact area.

Organizations with prospective projects may familiarise themselves with Emirates NBD’s programmes that most closely match their activities. Our programme teams collaborate to review proposals.

Exchanger programme & philanthropy

Our approach to Philanthropy is to generate donations and support campaigns that benefit and improve the lives of children.

Exchanger, our award-winning volunteer programme, enables our employees, their family and friends, and partners to exchange time for community service and make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and the larger community.

Our advocacy programme, #Together Limitless, is in line with our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community. The programme consists of initiatives aimed at improving the social and financial inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).

Financial Inclusion

We are committed to work towards innovating and expanding the range of financial services available for our identified underserved group, such as people with disabilities, low-income individuals, illiterate people, or elderly individuals, by offering tailor solutions in accordance with the identified customer base needs and Emirates NBD business strategy.
