Emirates NBD named SME Bank of the Year at Arabian Business StartUp Awards 2013

Commended for launch of 'RISE - the Power of Small' platform

Dubai, December 12, 2013: Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region, has been named SME Bank of the Year at the recently held 2013 Arabian Business StartUp Awards. The award recognises Emirates NBD as a local pioneer in improving relations between banks and small and medium enterprises across the UAE.

We are very proud to be part of the SME community in the UAE, and have seen some fantastic examples of future business leaders recognised at this event."

Emirates NBD received the award on the back of several unique initiatives such as RISE, which showed the bank's keenness to be a catalyst for SME growth not just for its customers but also for the entire SME segment. Other platforms that supported the award included the Global Business Series, which is an
Emirates NBD supported networking forum for entrepreneurs to meet and interact with proven business leaders.

"Emirates NBD has built up a tremendous reputation in the market as a staunch supporter of SMEs, and we have attained the status of being the number one choice for SMEs in the region," said Vikas Thapar, Head of Business Banking, Emirates NBD. "We are delighted with this award, which is a wonderful recognition of our achievements in leading the way in the UAE's vibrant SME sector."

This is not the first time Emirates NBD has been recognised for its contribution to the local SME market. The bank was named 'Most Friendly SME Bank in the UAE' at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Awards for Young Business Leaders in 2012, and this year Emirates NBD's RISE campaign won a Bronze award in the Banking, Finance and Insurance industry category at the Effie MENA awards 2013.

The Arabian Business StartUp Awards are designed to recognise and celebrate the successes of start-ups, SMEs and entrepreneurs across the Emirates, and all who support them.
