Emirates NBD Group Innovation Olympics' held in honour of 2015 UAE Innovation Week

Emirates NBD Group Innovation Olympics today in honour of the 2015 UAE Innovation Week (22 - 28 November) launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Dubai, 22 November, 2015: Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region, held the Emirates NBD Group Innovation Olympics today in honour of the 2015 UAE Innovation Week (22 - 28 November) launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The event, part of Emirates NBD’s long-term commitment to foster a culture of innovation within the organisation, was officially registered with the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation as one of the central support activities of the UAE Innovation Week. The day-long event showcased innovative solutions in banking and financial technology as well as new concepts and possibilities within the sector, and was attended by members of the board of directors and executive management as well as senior bank officials and staff members.

As part of the Emirates NBD Group Innovation Olympics, fifteen finalists of the bank’s internal innovation challenge presented their working prototypes based on the four main themes: ‘Enhancing customer experience’, ‘Powering business objectives’, ‘Business optimisation’ and ‘Improving staff engagement’. This year, the event also included an expo-style exhibition showcasing prototypes of all staff entries as well as UAE-based universities (Masdar Institute, University of Sharjah and HULT), vendors and FinTech start-up as part of the bank’s aim to create and nurture a wider partner ecosystem of innovation in the UAE.

Speaking at the event, Abdulla Qassem, Group Chief Operating Officer – Emirates NBD said, “We started our innovation journey three years ago to ignite and foster our staff’s passion for innovation. The Emirates NBD Group Innovation Olympics is an annual event that leverages collective intelligence and teamwork to crowdsource innovative ideas that translate into concrete business innovation. We were impressed with the ideas presented this year that reflect the immense creative potential within Emirates NBD.”

The UAE Innovation Week is a celebration of innovation in the UAE, in line with the directive of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to mark 2015 as the ‘Year of Innovation’. The week, which serves as a definitive platform and destination for innovation and innovators in the region, also builds on the National Innovation Strategy launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai as a primary tool to achieve UAE Vision 2021.
