Emirates NBD, a leading banking Group in the region, announced today that it has appointed Lubna Qassim as the Group's Company Secretary

Dubai, 9 February, 2014: Emirates NBD, a leading banking Group in the region, announced today that it has appointed Lubna Qassim as the Group’s Company Secretary.

Lubna has an extensive and solid legal experience of more than 15 years in serving both the private and public sectors. Prior to this appointment, Lubna was the Director of the Department of Economic Legislation in the UAE, Ministry of Economy, where she founded and led the Economic Legislations Department and advised on UAE legal and public sector reform, as well as economic legislations. She has also headed the Legal and Regulatory Affairs Department, and is the former Executive of the Dubai Economic Council.

 

 

 

Having worked on comprehensive legislative reforms and advised both the local and federal UAE government on legislation such as the Foreign Investment Law, Companies Law, and Arbitration Law, Lubna has also been an advocate for legal policies and legislations related to entrepreneurship and insolvency law. In both her former positions she contributed positively in shaping the legal landscape of the UAE.

 

Earlier, she worked for the world's most prestigious law firm, Clifford Chance, in the corporate and commercial department in both their Dubai and London offices. At present, Lubna sits on the Global Economic Symposium Fellows Committee of the Kiel University of the World Economy.

She is the first UAE national to have worked at the World Bank as the Public Sector Consultant and at the House of Lords, Parliament of the UK. In 2009, she was nominated to participate in the prestigious leadership program at Edmund A Walsh, School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. She was also elected and invited, by the White House, to participate at the US Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in April 2010. Most recently, she was selected by H.E. William Hague, United Kingdom’s First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, for her leadership skills to participate in the Future International Leadership Program which took place in London in October 2013.

Lubna is fluent in five languages and is currently learning Mandarin. She also dedicates much of her time to advocating for education in the MENA region, diversity and corporate governance which she promotes through her writings and public speeches.
